| Joseph Patrick Dorcey, C.Ss.R. Province
of Denver – He was born in Wayne, Nebraska on September 30, 1953, the fourth of nine children, son of Joseph M. Dorcey and Patricia A. (Tighe) Dorcey. He attended St. Mary’s School in Wayne, Nebraska for his elementary education. From 1967-1971 he studied at the Redemptorist minor seminary, St. Joseph’s Preparatory College, in Edgerton, Wisconsin. He attended Holy Redeemer College in Waterford, Wisconsin, a Redemptorist institution for philosophical studies, from 1971-1972 and 1973-1976. He made his novitiate in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin in 1972-1973, professing vows for the first time on August 5, 1973. He professed perpetual vows on August 21, 1976. He did his theological studies at Mt. St. Alphonsus in Esopus, New York from 1976-1980. He was ordained to the priesthood on May 31, 1979, at Holy Redeemer College, Waterford, Wisconsin. From 1980-1994 he was assigned
to the Vice-Province of Manaus, Amazonas, From 1995-1998 he served as an associate pastor at St. Alphonsus parish in Chicago, Illinois. From 1999-2002 he was assigned to the Region of Nigeria, West Africa. He served briefly as an associate pastor in one of the Lagos parishes and then as director of student formation for students of philosophy and theology in Ibadan. In 2002-2003 he was called to Rome to help with preparations for the XXIII General Chapter and to work on the General Government web site. In December, 2003 he was elected by the General Council to serve as Secretary General during the 2003-2009 sexennium. |
